Kodak recently sent me one of their Sports Single Use Camera, and I honestly have to say this, it felt so old school. It’s been awhile since I held one of these disposable cameras, it was wayyy before I had babies. *chuckles*

Anyway, these cameras are pretty handy to have when you have kids, because they can now take the pictures for you. It’s very durable, with it’s rubber shell casing, so that’s why I don’t worry if they ever drop the camera. Also, because it’s waterproof, there’s nothing wrong with them, taking it to the waters whenever they liked. I have to say, the boys had a lot of fun with it, taking all 25 photos, leaving none for me.

snowman1Although most people would associate such cameras to be used only under water, I have to say, you can use it for ANY outdoor occasion, where there is a lot of action. It may be summertime in US, but it’s winter right where I am! So, we recently had the opportunity to go up to the mountains for some fun snow play! The camera was so light, it wasn’t as bothersome to carry, as oh! say, a DSLR! The fact that it dropped onto the snow so many times, and still managed to capture great memories, was fantastic! Proved it’s durability over and over again!

Buy It! : Kodak’s Sports Single Use Camera is available only at US$11.99 at most retailers near you. You can also get it online here. It is waterproofed up to 50 feet, great for the enthusiastic snorkelers. Also, highly resistant to sunscreen smudges and scratches from sand and snow! Just remember this camera needs lots of sunshine, so your photos will be as vibrant as you will remember it to be.

Review & Giveaway : My Virtual Tutor

GIVEAWAY CLOSED!

my-virtual-tutor-logo

Wow!!  “My Virtual Tutor: Reading”, created for Nintendo DS, is a wonderful, educational “game” that encourages fluency, comprehension, vocabulary building, and reading skills advancement.  It sounds almost too good to be true- but it’s not.  I was recently given the opportunity to review this great new product and I have to say I am truly amazed.
xx
mvt-k-1My children are ones who love to play video games and although we strictly monitor the time they spend playing them, a product such as My Virtual Tutor: Reading takes much of the worry out of that idle play time on the DS. My Virtual Tutor: Reading, created by Mentor InterActive, is a children’s educational game that concentrates on five reading areas including Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Comprehension, Fluency, and Vocabulary- all recommended by the Department of Education to improve reading proficiency.xx

My daughter, age 5, is one of the most advanced readers in her kindergarten class. We chose to review the Kindergarten through 1st grade version of My Virtual Tutor: Reading, and it was a bit of a challenge for her. The game itself is fabulous with great graphics and a wonderful, clear voice directing the game. Each version includes eight interactive books with four modes of play:

  • Read to Me- Virtual tutor reads the story with exciting animation
  • I Can Read- Beginning vocabulary word-based activities
  • Interactive- Clickable animations with interactive quizzes to test reading and vocabulary comprehension
  • Paint- Unleash creativity and illustrate scenes while listening to a story.
We started with the first book, Underwater, and went through all four modes of play.  My daughter very much enjoyed each of them, but the interactive mode held her attention the longest.  During parts of the story, a line from the book is read out loud and then a recorder mode allows the child to read the same line aloud, record their own voice, and then replay to check for accuracy.  This was by far her favorite part- she loved being able to hear her own voice reading the story.
xx
In addition to the storybooks their are also Phonics mini-games and quizzes to help with reading comprehension and word knowledge. The Parent Mode allows parents to monitor book progress and see their child’s aptitude in the phonics games. It helps parents track the progress their children are making while “playing” their video game.
We loved “My Virtual Tutor: Reading” and would recommend it to any parent whose child loves video games and is a beginning reader. It is available for purchase in Pre-K, K-1st, and 1st-2nd grades, allowing consistency as your child advances from level to level.

Buy It! “My Virtual Tutor: Reading” for the Nintendo DS is available at mass and specialty retailers such as Toys R’ Us, GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon.com.

Review and Giveaway : Story Fort – Interactive Books for Kids

GIVEAWAY CLOSED!

Story Fort has just published an interactive book just for kids, about a cyclops called Carl who has a big dilemma. In this story, kids follow Carl, while he tries to resolve his problems, kids also get to learn in a really fun and interactive way.

The first thing that struck me about this interactive book was the music! We love fun, upbeat music, so this is definitely a plus point. The other thing was, the very colorful illustrations that caught my 4 year old. He wasn’t too sure about the cyclops, and seemed to prefer the monsters more! There are many other lil gems in there, that would keep any kid entertain for some time. One of which, is when you click on a highlighted word, an image would pop out and it would be read aloud. What a great way for kids to learn and build their vocabulary.

There is even a bonus memory game, which all kids love! My son was truly entertained by this book and it is great for kids between the ages of 3-5. It is currently available for PC users only.

Check out the music video!
