Summer holiday is almost over and before you even know it, your child will be back in school. Like any other family, it is only natural for you to feel stressful when faced with the challenges of transiting from summer vacation into back to school mode.
All you need to do to overcome this is bring some simple organizing strategies into your home. Sounds easy enough? Let’s get moving!
First things first. Organize the home
Prep the home with storage space so that you can keep everything in place and at the same time have extra storage for those additional textbooks, school supplies and everything in between.
Store your child’s items in bins, baskets or cubbies and label them properly so that he can have access to his things easily.
Have a Daily Checklist
Once school starts, you should have a daily check list ready. This is to ensure that you do not miss out anything as you or your child might take some time to establish a routine. For example, are gym shoes packed? Checked. Flute for music class? Checked. Do this on a daily basis until you are familiar with the checklist. Once a routine or system is established, you can do away with the checklist
Minimize Chaos in the morning
I’m sure getting your child to rise early is already a challenge by itself. This is especially true for younger kids. If you prefer to cut down the early morning chaos, try to get ready the things that you can do ahead of time. Examples include pre-packing the backpack and lunch box as well as laying out the clothes.
Provide spare lunch money
Now, here’s the real deal. Moms are not perfect. We make mistakes and yes, we may on those rare occasions forget to pack our child’s lunch box. So, start from Day 1, provide your child with spare lunch money so that he has an option to buy lunch when such “emergency” occurs.
Calendar is a Must!
Imagine the sea of schedules in a school year. You need to keep track of after-school activities, school programs, meet-the-teacher night, field trips, volunteer work, etc. Have all these dates recorded on your calendar and it will help you stay on top of things.
Those are the organizing tips that have never failed to minimize the back to school stress for us. I am sure you have more ideas to share. Feel free to leave us a comment and tell us what works for you.
