Exergen TemporalScanner Giveaway
GIVEAWAY CLOSED!
For years now doctors have told parents to take their baby’s temperature rectally – well, sometimes I wonder if these doctors have ever actually tried to take a baby’s temperature rectally. In my personal opinion it’s pretty awful! What if you had another option? Recently, a company called Exergen came up with a product called the “TemporalScanner” which is more accurate than an ear thermometer (according to testing done during a Harvard Medical School study) and even comparable to a rectal temperature.
The Exergen TemporalScanner is easy to use – I tried it out as well as my husband, Mom and Dad (we later tried it out on my son). Our first run with the TemporalScanner was null because the four of us tried it but none of us realized that we had to take off the “protective cap” so we did so and tried again.
My husband (aka “test subject #1”) got a 98 degree reading – as opposed to his first 94 degree reading.
“I’m not dead yet!” exclaimed my husband. Nice.
My temperature was 97.6 degrees which is pretty normal for me. My Mom was around 97 also.
While trying out the temporalscanner we also used a regular thermometer and took temperatures under the arms. The temporal scanner came up with the same readings as the regular thermometer. I didn’t compare a rectal reading though – as you could most likely understand!
BUY IT: Uncomfortable babies tend to wriggle a lot and The Exergen TemporalScanner will serve as a great tool to provide an accurate reading with just a stroke across the forehead. You can get yours from Wal-Mart, Babies R’ Us, Walgreens, Toy’s R’ Us, Costco.com and Baby.com. You can also contact Exergen directly at 1-800-422-3006 or medical@exergen.com.
WIN IT: Thanks to Exergen, we’re giving away one unit of the Exergen TemporalScanner to two of our readers. Check out the guidelines to enter below:

ambient temperature affects the skin temperature, and so the thermometer automatically measures the ambient temperature at the very same time it is measuring the temperature over the temporal artery. It then can calculate any heat loss (in a normal or cold room) or gain (in a hot room), and instantly computes an accurate body temperature.

First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;
Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented “arterial heat balance” (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.

The founder and CEO holds 60(!) US Patents for non-invasive thermometry. Amazing.
June 15th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Let’s try that again, as I spoke about the founder, not the device. Because there is no need for probe covers and the like, future operating budgets for thermometry in institutions using only Temporal Artery Thermometers are zero.

Exergen TemporalScanner is more accurate than an ear thermometer and even comparable to a rectal temperature.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
The TemporalScanner is easier and gentler to use than other types of measurement devices such as oral, rectal, underarm and in-ear thermometers because it is truly non-invasive.

I learned that the most accurate temperature is in the center of the heart but that is only under a physician’s treatment. The TemporalScanner Thermometer is designed to measure the temperature of the skin surface over the temporal artery, a major artery of the head.

I learned that the Red LED flashes and soft beep indicates correct scan

June 15th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Its desighned to measure the skins surface over the temporal artery and a soft beep will tell you when you have the correct scan.
June 15th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
The TemporalScanner Thermometer is a totally non-invasive system with advanced infrared technology providing maximum ease of use with quick, consistently accurate measurements.
I’m due on Sept. 30 and could really use this!
Thanks for the chance to win!!

The temporal temp is more accurate than traditional ways of getting a reading and it’s non-invasive
June 16th, 2009 at 5:37 am
I want to be gentle to myself and others so a noninvasive thermometer is the way to go.
June 16th, 2009 at 5:44 am
The TemporalScanner has been proven more accurate than ear thermometers by a Harvard Medical School study.

Wow, I had no idea these are so popular. The website sayd that Exergen Temporal Scanners are now used by medical professionals approx. 500,000,000 time per year and by consumers approx. 100,000,000 time per year and both continue to grow rapidly.

Boy do I need this tonight, my son went to bed with 103.3 and I hate having to wake him up to take his temp!
