EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor Giveaway
GIVEAWAY CLOSED!
Picture this – it’s midnight – your child is fussy, grumpy maybe even feverish. He may or may not be pulling on his ears. What’s up? Is it just an oncoming cold or could it be an oncoming (or already here) ear infection. Should you just watch your child or take him as soon as possible to the doctor? Want an easier way to tell?
I had the opportunity to try out the EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor – which claims to be able to accurately detect the presence fluid in the ear. If there is fluid in the middle ear (behind the eardrum) there is a very good chance that your child has an ear infection.
I tried the EarCheck out on myself first, just to see how loud it was and how it worked. The beeping (more like chirping) wasn’t loud at all and the reading came back in seconds – green (as I figured it would be). I next tried the EarCheck out on my son – he didn’t squirm and it didn’t bother him at all. Again the reading came back green (again, as I figured it would be).
The website claims that the device has been used and is recommended by Pediatricians. So, I did a little detective work and found that – indeed – the EarCheck is recommended by Doctors.
I think the EarCheck is an incredibly cool device. This could save unnecessary trips to the doctor’s office and worries that you might have to miss work the next day. Keep in mind though – that even though your child may have an ear infection, it may not be bad enough to warrant antibiotics. So please don’t run to your doctor waving around your EarCheck yelling for medicine!
BUY IT: You can purchase the EarCheck at Target, Wal-Mart, CVS and other drug stores. You can also purchase one off the EarCheck website. To find a retailer near you – you can call 1-888-EAR-CHEK.
WIN IT : We’ve partnered with EarCheck to giveaway one unit of EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor worth $49.95 to one of our readers. To enter, here’s what you need to do:

THIS IS SOOOO COOL! I have 2 small boys and one less trip to the pediatrican’s office would be ever so wonderful!
April 20th, 2009 at 9:29 am
I have my daughter in to the pediatrician twice in the last two weeks and both times she was fine. I would love this so I can save time and money.

My twins just had their 2 month well check and found out that the use of a pacifier can lead to an increase in ear infections. My boys are soothed my a paci so now I have to worry about ear infections or stop giving them the paci, which is what I need to do. Having ear check would help me identify any issues before it gets too bad.

April 21st, 2009 at 12:29 am
I would like to win this because I have a three-year-old, a two-year-old, and a one-year-old, and this would save us needless runs to the doctor’s office, which would save us tons of money. Also, my husband had lots of ear infections as a child, and he tends to think that EVERYTHING leads to an ear infection, so this would help put his mind at ease.

I was born with small pin-holes in my eardrums and so was two of my boys. We are always on alert for ear infections, it would be nice not to have to run to the doctor everytime we felt a twinge.

Um no, she never said a word about any pain. I guess that is good they don’t hurt her, but I’d love a way to know about them to get it treated!

April 27th, 2009 at 9:46 am
I have twin babies, just a few weeks old. They are well & don’t have a history of ear trouble, but will likely encounter ear infections. Many of their cousins have recurring ear infections, so maybe a family vulnerability. Maybe not, but I can only imagine that having a sick baby when there is another to care for would be hard. I would want to know right away if it could be an ear infection so it could be treated without delay.
April 27th, 2009 at 10:25 am
would be great for my daughter to use for her 4 children
April 27th, 2009 at 1:50 pm

April 27th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
my little one has already had one ear infection. He currently has a cold and I don’t want to take him to the doctor exposing him to other infections(especially with this swine flu going around and killing people and we live in nm – in a portion which is highly hispanic with folks going back and forth to visit relatives all over sa – incl. mexico).
I used to get them all the time until I finally got tubes placed in my ears. This device would be helpful!

My kids don’t get ear infections often, so I don’t think to ask them about their ears when they’re feeling poorly. This way I could check them and see for myself!
April 28th, 2009 at 8:19 am

I would like to win because I have a 3month old and a 3 year old and fevers are common in my home. My child has febrile seizures, so this win will be well worth it!

I would like to win EarCheck because I take care of my 90 year old father and it would really come in handy.
April 28th, 2009 at 11:02 am
I sure could use this in our home. Last year my son, even though he’s in his 20′s. He does drywall work and never knew that he had a blockage of dust in his ears and fluid had built up, he had no pain until he went swimming and dove deep down, well the pressure made his ear drum rupture, which meant a emergency trip to the hospital and today he still has problems with that ear and has to have drops put in. My kids do a lot of swimming and often get water in their ears, which I heard promotes infection. My teen daughter cleans her ears a lot so I worry about her having ear problems. With kids this is a must have item
Thank you for the chance to win so that I can keep all my family ear problem free.

I would love to use this product because my daughter is so prone to ear infections. She actually had her first one when she was only 3 months old. She is currently 5 but still gets them. This would be a great tool to have at home to monitor her ears. THANKS

This would be great for my sister, she has twins. They are prone to ear infections, but you never know if it’s that or they’re just pulling on their ear lobes because they’re sleepy.

April 29th, 2009 at 9:05 am

I have young children and I used to have serious ear infections as a child.
April 29th, 2009 at 11:07 am
The kids get cronic ear infections & it’s hard to tell what’s wrong without running to the doctor every time.
Sometimes it’s just headaches & allergies.
I would love to have this so I could check them at home & then go to the doctor if it shows they have a problem.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Its just so hard to get my grandaughter to hold still this is great for me thanks.
